Picking the Song for Your First Dance

I was just checking out some of my older posts and recalled one about first dances — and what songs people like to pick to dance to. It’s a fun post, so I thought I would repost the list of songs. In this new year, there are more songs that should be added to the list — or rather, just one that a friend recently introduced me to. It’s a little non-traditional and is more like a pop-dance song to dance to, but it’s fun!

By the way, if I could find a link to the song online, I provided it – just click on the song title! I also linked to the artists’ website, if you click on the name of the artist.

The Father-Daughter Dance

So you and your dad are going to have the traditional father daughter dance, but you’ve got some questions — mostly “what will we dance to?”

Here are some suggestions:

  • Bob Carlisle’s “Butterfly Kisses”
  • Heartland’s “I Loved Her First”
  • Kenny Rogers’s “Through the Years”
  • Frank Sinatra’s  “The Way You Look Tonight”
  • Natalie Cole’s “Unforgettable”
  • Amy Grant’s “My Father’s Eyes”

Some “non-cheesy” songs suggestions from the Offbeat Bride:

  • Loudon Wainwright’s “Daughter”
  • 10,000 Manaics “How You’ve Grown”
  • Ben Folds’ “Still Fighting It”

What’s your favorite father-daughter dance song?

Looking for a gift that both father & daughter will love? How about an online photo album filled with all the photos from your guests?

Your First Dance

You’re trying to pick the song for your first dance as a married couple. Where do you begin? Obviously, some couples have a song that is “theirs” – one that has special meaning for them already. But other couples need some assistance picking a song that works for them.

first-dance

You want to pick a song that is wedding-appropriate, meaningful, but not overly emotional for you. (As The Wedding Bee points out, you don’t want to be crying on the dance floor! Although my caveat is that anything would make me cry, so I’m not sure that would apply to everyone!)

Here are some songs that might work. This list has been compiled from a variety of sources: The Wedding Bee, IDoPersonalGifts, HereComeTheGuide, and my friends. I just want to make sure everyone gets credit for their searches and hard work! By the way, if I could find a link to the song online, I provided it – just click on the song title! I also linked to the artists’ website, if you click on the name of the artist.
